The primary material used is Polyimide (PI), specifically Dupont Corporation's "Kapton." Kapton is renowned for its exceptional thermal stability (>500°C), mechanical toughness, and chemical resistance. Notably, Polyimide possesses excellent dielectric properties and a low coefficient of thermal expansion, making it an ideal choice for flexible circuit applications.

Innovations in Flex Circuit Manufacturing

Best FPC leads in innovation, producing flex circuits with remarkable specifications. The thinnest thickness achievable for a single-layer flex circuit is an impressive 0.06mm. Best Technology offers various stack-up combinations for single-layer FPC, allowing for flexibility in design. The capability extends to manufacturing multilayer flexible circuits with up to 10 or more conductive layers. Stiffeners, including Polyimide (0.075-0.20mm), FR4 (0.15-2.0mm), and punched or formed metal parts (0.075-1.0mm), contribute to the versatility of the circuits. Multilayer Flexible Circuits

Best FPC manufactures multilayer circuits ranging from 3 to 14+ layers. These circuits feature a minimum line width/spacing of 4mil/4mil. Options include adhesive-based and adhesiveless constructions with thermoplastic and thermoset stiffener attachment. Substrates use polyimide ranging from 1/2mil to 4mil, while copper options include 1/3OZ to 2OZ (RA or ED type). Stiffeners encompass Polyimide (0.075-0.20mm), FR4 (0.15-2.0mm), and punched or formed metal parts (0.075-1.0mm). The fabrication process involves low-cost, conventional methods with PTH-based plating. Additional features include screened inks, photo-imageable soldermasks, laminated coverlay dielectrics, and surface finishes like ENIG, electroplated nickel/gold, immersion silver, tin, and EMI shielding.

Double Sided Flexible Circuits

These circuits offer varying copper thickness (1/3OZ to 4OZ), polyimide thickness (1/2mil to 4mil), and board thickness (0.10mm to 0.44mm). With dimensions up to 220*1,500mm, they feature minimum PTH of 0.10mm and minimum line width/spacing of 2mil/2mil (0.5OZ). Impedance control options include popular values like 50 ohm, 90 ohm, and 100 ohm, with others available.

Dual Access Flexible Circuits

Connected to both sides through copper without requiring a through hole. Better flexibility and bendability compared to 2L flexible circuits due to a simpler stack-up. Soldering PAD can be placed anywhere on both top and bottom sides.

Single-Sided Flexible Circuits

The simplest stack-up of flex circuits, popular for its thinness. This 1-layer FPC is more flexible than other types, making it a preferred choice over rigid boards. The thinnest thickness achievable by Best Technology is 0.06mm.
